Friend Just Got Diagnosed With Mono

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't worry much, my friend who I smoke with on a daily basis got Mono last spring, I didn't catch it.... You may not have the active cells or whatever inside of you to catch Mono, at least thats what happened with me. Doc said that I would never catch it or some crap and that you really have a 50/50 chance on whether your susceptible or not, it's a quick and easy test at the doctor just go get it now before you start feeling like shit and make sure not to psych yourself out about it.

Not true-

You can get mono more than once, and you can get chickenpox more than once.... if they weren't severe cases.

My fiance had mono, and I didn't. Damn lucky too lol.

He never specified which hose he was smoking from wink.gif

Remember kiddies - Cover your hose ends in all situations!

Nurse Tati says:

Mono is actually a member of the herpes family.
Chicken pox is also a member of the herpes family.

With both of these, once you have it, you have for life. But you are not always infectious.
Reoccurring outbreaks (see JD) are possible with both diseases, but not very common.

but he's worried that he'll have it...you're out for months with that

Oh.

I never smoke a hose that somebody else has smoked so I guess the thought didn't cross my mind, lol. I was interpreting that as "i hate life cause my best friend is 'dying' of mono" or something. Whoops.

But yeah. I either use my own hose, or a little disposable plastic cover.

I'm a germophob at heart, I guess. I just don't want herpes lol

Yeah I keep a small box of filters and hose tips just in case. Not a germaphobe, I just don't like getting sick! Tips are pretty cheap. plus at HS they give you a bunch free with each hookah.

True. Usually with my own, if somebody else smokes it I can just wipe it off with my shirt or something. But at the hookah lounge, I'm paranoid as hell cause who knows who has been smoking it, and how clean it is.. huh.gif huh.gif huh.gif

Don't they give you tips at the lounges? They have at all the ones I went too. I am headed to reno in a few weeks and if that's the case, i am bringing a handful with me to those lounges....man that's just not sanitary!

there is more than one strain of mono.. you can get relapses of it too. if u already have had it, you are less likely to get it again because of exactly what nickreppin found but it doesn;t mean you are completely immune
